If you want to stay on the banks of Bangkok’s Chao Phraya River you have quite a few hotels to choose from. The wide, meandering Chao Phraya is much of the reason Bangkok came to be at all, so if you choose any one of these riverside hotels you’ll not only be able to enjoy a great view, but a bit of history, too.
While the river isn’t in the center of the city, it is where you’ll find Bangkok's most important museums and tourist attractions and thanks to the Chao Phraya Express river ferry, it’s pretty convenient to travel up and down the river, not to mention a lot of fun, too.
At the top end of hotels on the river are the upscale Oriental near Chinatown, the stunning and super posh Siam in Dusit and the charming, exclusive Chakrabongse Villas in the same area. These are among the most expensive hotels in the city, but they're also the best in terms of service and, of course, location.
Traveling to Bangkok with family, or just looking for a place to relax and unwind while you’re here? Bangkok has a small selection of family-friendly riverside hotels that have spacious grounds and many of the same amenities you’ll find in resorts outside of the city. They aren’t as centrally located as most of the luxury hotels, but they all offer free water shuttles to the nearest public transportation.
Looking for something a little more modest (or at least a little less expensive) than the city’s most luxurious hotels on the water? Check out your options in Banglampu to the north and the newly developed area just south of Chinatown, too.
