The Phuket Aquarium, a government-run, not-for-profit aquarium, is part research facility, part conservation center and has hundreds of fish on display for the public to enjoy. The aquarium is an excellent way to learn about the region’s aquatic life and entertain kids when it’s raining or if you need a break from the beach. Most of the collection of salt water and fresh water fish are housed in typical fish tanks, but there is a walking tunnel through one of the aquarium’s largest tanks that allows visitors to view sharks, fish and other ocean creatures from all angles. For little visitors who want to interact with the wildlife, there is also a touching pool stocked with star fish, sea cucumbers and other fish that typically inhabit the shallow reefs surrounding Phuket.
