August is a quiet month for events and festivals in Thailand since Buddhist Lent (Khao Pansa) will continue through mid-October. Here’s what’s going on this month.

This annual sailing event takes place in the beach resort town of Hua Hin, just a couple of hours by car from Bangkok. The races, organized by the Yacht Racing Association of Thailand, can be viewed from Hua Hin Beach.

2. Mother's Day and the Queen's Birthday
Her Majesty the Queen’s birthday is the day Thailand celebrates moms, too. All the surrounding trees are decorated with enchanting twinkling lights.
