Temple Touring

Follow me on:

Everybody who comes to Thailand spends at least a couple of hours visiting Buddhist temples (or wats, as they're called in Thai). There are more than 40,000 wats in Thailand, and some folks spend days touring as many of them as they can!

The temptation to stop at every temple you pass by when you're here is strong, but keep in mind that not every temple is necessarily worth visiting. The vast majority of temples in Thailand aren't historically or architecturally significant. That doesn't mean that they aren't beautiful or interesting, or that visiting won't be gratifying, but it does mean that you should not feel compelled to go. Think of it like churches in Paris. You want to visit some of the city's amazing cathedrals and churches but you don't need to walk into every in the city.

Once you've figured out which wats to visit, read on to learn more tips for temple touring in Thailand.
