This is a small consolation, but the Thai government just announced that they will waive any visa overstay fees for people who can't leave because of the ash spewing from a volcano on southern Iceland's Eyjafjallajokull glacier.
When you finally do make it out of the country, give yourself a little extra time because you will need to show the following to immigration officials when you exit the country:
- flight itinerary showing that you were due to fly on a flight which was canceled due to volcanic ash
- visa stamp in your passport which expired on and after 15 April 2010
As of now, the waiver will apply until April 30.
People are stranded all over the world. Read about more volcano chaos from other About.com guides.
